SNAKES UNITED FC — FOOTBALL, COMMUNITY & A YEAR OF MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Snakes United FC is a Nottingham-based charity football club built on a simple idea that somehow became something much bigger: get a group of people together once a month, play some football, have a laugh, and raise money for causes that actually mean something. That small idea sparked a community that’s now involved more than 40 players, created a club with real purpose, and raised over £3,000 for charity in our first year alone.
Who We Are & What We Do
Once a month, we play a full 11-a-side charity match against other charity teams or local casual sides. Before each fundraising cycle, we draw a player at random — and they get to choose the charity we support for the next few games. It means every player gets their moment, every story gets heard, and every charity we back has a personal connection to someone in the squad.
We raise money in all sorts of creative ways: cake sales, raffles, sweets-in-a-jar guesses, sponsored challenges, matchday buckets, merch drops, and help from local businesses like FHP Property Consultants, who sponsored both of our kits and continue supporting our mission.
We’re also growing quickly off the pitch. We now have a dedicated committee shaping the club’s long-term direction and a fundraising team constantly dreaming up new ways to make each month bigger than the last. Our community presence is booming too — recently, the MP for Gedling and the Mayor both turned up for one of our fixtures. Not many Sunday teams can say that. And after matches, the Gedling Old Boys Club now open privately just for us, giving everyone a place to relax, talk, and pretend we didn’t miss that open goal.
Content & Media Development
Behind the scenes, we’ve stepped our game up massively. We now have a dedicated content lead, Josh, who’s responsible for helping us look far more professional online than we sometimes feel on the pitch. From pre-match mini-games to matchday videos and sharp photography, our content captures the fun, personality, and chaos that makes Snakes United what it is.
Our Instagram is closing in on 10,000 followers, and every platform we’re on continues to grow — largely because we show the real side of grassroots charity football. We’re also lucky to have a club photographer who not only gets great match shots but occasionally films parts of our games too. It gives players memories to keep forever and lets supporters get a real feel for our matchdays. It’s more than just a game — it’s a little event of its own.FundraisersIn our first full year (October 2024–October 2025), we’ve raised money for a range of charities, each chosen for meaningful, personal reasons. Here’s a snapshot of the causes we’ve supported:
-
Macmillan Cancer Support — £513.64 raised so far, with two more matches to come. Chosen by our player Adam, in memory of the support his family received before his mother passed away. Our goal: break £1,000 by the end of the cycle.

-
The Sanj Kalia Memorial Cup — £610 raised. A one-off cup dedicated to a beloved friend and former Nottinghamshire FC manager, celebrating his life and legacy.

-
MUTED (Men’s Mental Health Nottingham) — £450 raised. Chosen because supporting men’s mental health is at the core of everything we do.

-
Good Companions — £500 raised. Nominated by our player Oscar, supporting a local charity helping elderly people facing loneliness.

-
British Heart Foundation — £290 raised. Dedicated to Jordan’s grandad — one of our biggest fans — after he survived a heart attack.

-
Maggie’s Cancer Support — £600 raised. Our first ever fundraiser, selected by our sponsor FHP. It included a memorable visit to the Maggie’s centre that showed exactly why their work matters.

-
SEN United — £50 donation. Supporting their work with the local SEN community.
Every match brings a new charity, a new challenge, and a new reason to show up and make a difference.
How It Started
Back in 2019, Snakes United was nothing more than a group of mates playing seven-a-side to keep fit and catch up. No grand plan. No monthly fixtures. Definitely no committee meetings.
But the group grew naturally, friendships strengthened, and by 2024 the idea of doing something meaningful started to take shape.
In October 2024, our founder Jordan played for Sands United FC — a team supporting bereaved fathers. He joined in honour of his own father, who lost a son. What he experienced there was powerful: men looking after each other, talking openly, improving their mental health, and supporting one another through football. That was the spark.
Snakes United FC became an eleven-a-side charity team with a purpose — and our first match was such a success that the idea took off almost instantly. Today, we welcome players from all across Nottingham and the East Midlands, forming a team that genuinely cares about the game, the cause, and each other.
Our Purpose
At its heart, Snakes United FC exists to promote better mental and physical wellbeing — especially for men who can’t commit to weekly league football because of family, work, or confidence.
We offer: a low-pressure, high-enjoyment place to play football ; a supportive community where you can talk openly; a team that welcomes everyone; a chance to raise money for meaningful causes, monthly matches that give players and supporters something to look forward to.
We’ve seen first-hand how playing just once a month can change people’s lives — from the charities we help to the confidence and friendships built within our squad.
Why the Name “Snakes United”?
People always ask. And yes… there is a deeper meaning.
Snakes are solitary creatures. Independent. Quiet. They’re the “deal with it yourself” type — which, let’s be honest, is something a lot of men relate to more than we’d like to admit.
Snakes United FC flips that idea on its head. We’ve taken a symbol of isolation and turned it into a symbol of unity. Our club is where those “lone snakes” come together — men from all walks of life forming friendships, talking, supporting each other, and creating moments that actually matter. Being “United” means no one has to face anything alone. On or off the pitch, we’ve got each other’s backs.
Looking Ahead
As we move into 2026, we’re aiming to: Raise even more money for meaningful causes, build new partnerships with local organisations, host bigger charity events & community days, strengthen our presence across Nottingham and the East Midlands, support more people through the positive impact of football.
We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved — and even more excited about what comes next.Where You Can Find Us
