Our Philosophy
Come down. Have a laugh. Raise money and awareness for good causes.
Who we are
Snakes United FC is a Nottingham-based charity football team. We play once a month against other charity or casual football sides, raising money for a wide variety of charities and worthy causes. For each cycle, one of our players is randomly selected to nominate a charity close to their heart, and the following matches are dedicated to supporting that chosen cause. Funds are raised through a range of creative activities, and in the past, we’ve also supported charities nominated by our sponsors, such as FHP Property Consultants.

October 2025 marks a full year of charity football for us, during which we have proudly raised £2,500. Looking ahead, we aspire to grow further and increase the impact we make. We have currently raised £4,592 so far.
Why we do this
It all began back in 2019, when a few friends and I set up a simple seven-a-side kickabout — a way to stay active, catch up with one another, and keep fit. What started casually soon grew into something more; players became committed to the group, and the enjoyment it brought encouraged us to continue.

In October 2024, I had the privilege of playing for Sands United FC, an extraordinary team that provides support for bereaved fathers. I joined in honour of my dad, who lost his son — my brother. What struck me most was the way the team looked after each other, building a community of support while boosting their own mental health through being active and social, without the intense pressures of league football.

That experience inspired me to expand Snakes United FC from a friendly seven-a-side into a dedicated eleven-a-side charity team. Our first match was a huge success, and unlike many other charity teams, we don’t dedicate ourselves to a single cause. Instead, we give every player the chance to have their moment by choosing a charity that means something to them. At its heart, however, our main principle is to promote both mental and physical wellbeing. We do this by providing people with the opportunity to play football once a month, especially for those who might struggle to commit to a regular weekly team due to work, family, or other commitments.
Since then, we’ve opened the team up to the public and now proudly have over 40 people involved with the club. Our ambition is to keep growing, build lasting relationships, raise funds for meaningful causes, and above all, enjoy ourselves and share a laugh together.

Why We’re Called Snakes United FC
The name Snakes United represents something deeper than it first appears. Snakes are often seen as solitary creatures — quiet, independent, and keeping to themselves. In many ways, that reflects how a lot of men deal with life’s challenges: staying silent, isolating when times get tough, and feeling like they have to handle things alone. Our name flips that idea on its head. At Snakes United FC, we’ve taken something that stands for isolation and turned it into a symbol of connection and unity.
We’re the coming together of those “lone snakes” — men from all walks of life who’ve found strength, friendship, and purpose through football. Being “United” means no one has to face anything on their own. On and off the pitch, we look out for one another, talk openly, and share a laugh. The snake represents individuality; being united gives it meaning. Together, we turn isolation into community, and that’s what Snakes United FC is all about.
